More Rock Dog

The project was an adaptation of Tibetan Rock Dog, a comic-book by a chinese rock star.
The main character is a Tibetan Mastiff who is the lead singer of a rock band. That was one take on him in the previous post.
Here are a few different versions and some of the other characters.

Rock Dog Designs

About a year ago I did a couple of weeks of designs for Rock Dog. Not sure why but the version I worked on was stopped and I believe somebody else is doing a different version of it now.
I had fun doing it and I quite like some of these.

Oh,, and sorry for the long absence. I moved to Los Angeles and got myself one of them cushy DreamWorks jobs.

New Photoshopping

Sketch Night Caricature Type Drawings

From one of the sketch nights I keep threatening to show pictures from but never do.
Drawn from a copy of brazilian Rolling Stone magazine that was casually lying around the studio.
Hopefully you can tell who they are,, if you can't, I blame Rolling Stone.

More Sketch Night Drawings

Tonight's harvest of pen and inkings. It's been a long time since I last used my markers. They are all drying out.
This time we had a camera so you may have to endure some pictures in the next post.

Just Sketches

From our cheap imitation Sketch Night. I was trying out pens and nibs and ink. Just for fun.
Nobody had a camera, so no photos of the artists at "work", but probably for the best.
Apart from myself the participants were -
Douglas, Israel, Paulo and Lucas.

Havank - Book 2 - De Schaduw Op De Tast

Daan Jippe,, erh,, Danier's second Havank book is out and is BEAUTIFUL!! Along with the regular size version, Daan-ier also made a giant size album with a "making of" chapter and ALL of his rough pages!!!

Here you can see both sizes.

And some examples.

Finally, the sketch page!

You can see more examples here - Sekvenskonst where it also says - It's available in two versions (with or without a sketch page) and is limited to only 200 copies. So don't expect that these will be available forever...
The price (for the regular edition) is €110 + postage.
You can get the book from Danier himself by mailing: lijnlust AT xs4all.nl

Thanks Daan!!!

The Other Work

This is my work on Asterix and the Vikings. I was lucky to get 2 complete sequences to myself, unfortunately the work arrived just as we were moving from Florida to Brazil, which was one of the most stressful periods of my life, and I was never able to focus and spend the time on the work it needed. I wish I had been able to do a better job than I did, there are some pretty pathetic scenes in there, but there are at least 2 scenes I'm quite pleased with.

This is the measly little amount of work I managed to do on Enchanted. I was only brought on for the last month or so of the production, unfortunately, because it was one of my favorite films to work on and I would have loved to do a lot more.

My Disney Reels

Sorry for the long absence, we've been very busy the last half year, unfortunately not on anything very nice.

These are most of the work I did in my time at Disney ( sad but true ), some of it I'm very proud of, and some of it not so much.
I don't have any of my line tests from Mulan but that's probably for the best.
I felt, towards the end before they closed the Disney studio, like I was finally starting to get the hang of it, and I dream about getting back to that one day.

Most of the work is mine, but there are some scenes here and there I shared with other animators, and even a couple of Kenai scenes ( when he grabs the spear and turns around as the bear attacks ) that are NOT MINE, and only there for continuity.

See what you think.

here first is my Lilo and Stitch work

Oooold straight ahead animation

One Friday night 14 years ago, in the studio in Denmark, my friend Christian Kuntz and I decided we were going to animate a hip hop type test. Christian found a song that had a male and female voice and we began animating, no x-sheet, no nothing, just the song on the CD. I had such a great time I stayed that night animating and the next night too. Sunday evening I shot the scene but by then I was alone in the studio and had no one to show it too.
The memories.

It's seems to be playing erratically and out of sync on youtube, so for anyone who, for whatever reason, would like to see it play at the right speed, in sync ( ish ), here is a download link

Misc. Heads

These, like the wolves ( a couple of posts down the page ), are sketches I did in the corners of animation roughs while working on one commercial or another and then inked and painted once the job was over.
The top right corner guy was inspired by the incredible work of the great Albert Dorne.
