American Dog

I don't think I'll get around to putting these up on the website any time soon,,, so I'm posting them here for now.
they are some examples of my work on American Dog before it got reworked into Bolt. They are not my designs ( I'm not sure who designed them,, exept for the girl, who is Chris Sanderseses's ). I was asked to develop the characters for the 3D artists,,, give them some different poses and attitudes to work from,,, including hundreds of drawings of hands and feet for each character,,, well, maybe not hundreds,, but lots!!

Matthew -

For something like a month after doing the hands,,, I could draw any hand in any position I wanted to,, it was great,, it seemed so easy,,, but it didn't last long,, now I'm back to the formula hands,,, but it was great while it lasted,,, you should try it,,
Draw nothing but hands for a week,,, it'll change your life,,, well, for about a month anyway

thanks

Rune

Oh,, and Anonymous,, always a pleasure.

Man oh man, that fat guy is incredibly impressive. Beautifully ugly sculptural feel, and form, love the running pose most of all. Expressions are fantastic, as always, and well the hands as stated previously are great.

Top knotch drawing & posing. Incredible hand studies-especially the chubby ones. It's very interesting to get further insight into Sanders' version. I can see how the fat beer belly, sexy cocktail waitress & zombie girl guide may have been deemed unsuitable for a Disney picture!
Brave of Sanders to push for that -it would make a terrific independant feature but I can't see how he thought Disney would ever go for that. Was he given carte blanche after the success of Lilo?

hey man, thanks for posting all this stuff, it's very inspiring!

i've always been a fan of the... "belgium?" look of cartooning. you know what i mean? like in Gaston LaGaffe and Asterix...

anyway, whenever i have problem with drawing hands in my work, i usually come back to this sheet you posted, so again, thanks!
